    What is Relationship / Marriage / Couples / Family Counselling? 

    Whether family relationships or intimate relationships with a partner it can be a great source of love, pleasure, support and excitement. However, relationships can also be a source of grief and anguish if they do not work out. Relationship counselling aims to put the relationship back on its right course so that it functions the best way possible to make all parties happy and fully satisfied about their relationship. This is done using professional and well established counselling techniques that suite the individual needs of every client, by relying on the experience and knowledge of qualified professionals in relationship counselling.  

    Why come for help?

    People come to our centre for many different reasons. It may be that their relationship has broken down or they are anxious that it might. Sustaining a fulfilling and stable relationship is never easy. Pressures from work, money, children, family tensions and ill health can all contribute to creating problems. Everyone goes through bad patches and sometimes it helps to consult a trained professional to make sense of what is happening and find a way forward.

    We recognise that everyone is unique and our services respond in an individual way to the problems presented to us.     Is Marriage and Family Counseling right for me?

    Marriage and Family Counseling may be of benefit to you if you or your family have experienced difficulties such as:

    • communication problems
    • infidelity
    • balancing the demands of home and work
    • misbehavior or school problems in a child
    • the loss of a family member
    • childhood traumas
    • conflicts in blended or remarriage families
    • step-parenting problems
    • family violence, or
    • substance abuse

    You may also wish to see a family and couples counselor to enhance your family relationships by learning such skills as effective communication, conflict resolution, assertiveness, and time management.

    Marriage and Family Counselors practice in a variety of settings, including independent practice, community mental health agencies, managed care organizations, hospitals, employee assistance programs, and houses of worship. They may provide any of the following services:

    • assessment and diagnosis
    • individual, couples, and family counseling
    • prevention programs and parent education programs
    • crisis management
    • multi-couple or multi-family groups

     

    During a lasting relationship people face many important decisions and turning points. Sometimes couples can't talk to each other about these problems. Meeting with a counselling psychologist can be a way to open up communications again thorough more specialised way of the underlying issues. Whether you come with your partner or alone, whether you are gay or heterosexual or whether you are married or single we aim to offer a safe and confidential setting in which to explore your difficulties. We also work with people who are ending a marriage or a long term relationship. Counselling can help people going through this painful process to overcome emotional difficulties and develop the confidence to rebuild their lives.
